I was recently attending a kesha and one of speakers posed a question, can a young person live a holy life? Let me give an anecdote as you ponder on the question. A young man once wanted to test the wisdom of a wise man. He held a bird in his hands and held it behind him,he then approached the wise man and said to him; i got a bird here, tell me is the bird alive or dead?
Back to the former question. during my solitary moment i also think about such a question. The church is calling for the youth to lead a life of chastity, some churches even call for celibacy throughout ones life. Most young people find it hard to understand how this is possible, Except possibly a few maybe, who are either outstanding or simply outcasts.
Some days back there was not much of TV or basically information. The “hot blood” stage was characterized by serving the community and that was it. Clear defined roles meant that girls were with their mothers most of the time and their male counterparts constantly wiping sweat. Seasons, rituals and stern punishments kept any form of impulsive inclination at bay.
Right about now its like an explosion just happened. Its all chaos, mind corrupting information is a mouse click away, people are exchanging numbers based on sexual compatibility, just a phone call away.
Lack of indulgence is said to be lack of enlightenment and everybody seems to be trying every of what is “cool” .Churches on their side are advocating for puritanism which leads to the members owning two skins; a church skin and a another for “life”. Is holy life really possible then? especially for the young?
So had the wise man said the bird was alive the young man would have crushed it dead, otherwise he would have left it alive. He simply put it , “the answer is right our arms!” .
Consequently before anyone feels like coming to me on the next encounter and serving me with some serious talk on morality of which am not a very good fan of just remember that for any young person, self proclaimed holy or not the answer to living a holy life, “is right in your arms!”
