Our continent, the country, organizations, families and even personal growth is at stake. This is because we are taking a backseat attitude when it comes to the facilitation of the processes that lead to our success. We don’t want to own the jobs we do, the studies we are pursuing or the families that we start. What’s even worse is that we always have something or somebody to blame for it.
A look around is a clear manifestation of exactly what am talking about. Take for instance the secondary school teachers, they don’t love their jobs, they don’t own them. They will always tell the students that they missed being pilots by one point at the university. It’s even worse for the primary school ones and in the process not a single kid wanna be a teacher. Now this creates a cycle which will forever demean the profession.
A common attitude in the institutions of higher learning is the all-i-want-is-just-a-degree attitude. Most of the students will therefore focus on passing exams without trying to understand the processes that they so fondly scribble down in the exam papers. This only serves to overload the job market with untrained graduates and it’s no wonder we are having a lot of collisions between the professional bodies and the universities.
All these characteristics are transferred into the corporate world and for sure our entrepreneurs suffer. Its common practice to see companies outsourcing essential IT services such as ERP development and maintenance from multinationals. If we can’t own and support our very own then the visions that we have set as a country are in vain. We need to show confidence in locally produced products and services if any of the visions that we have are to be realized. That means that our firms need to produce world class products for them to compete with their counterparts from the rest of the world. With that in mind they need to adequately motivate their employees for the statement “a satisfied employee means a satisfied customer” holds.
And finally in these reflections, for a myriad of reasons people will start families. It could be because they feel it’s time or they have amassed enough wealth to bring up children. A peculiar one among some communities is the pressure from immediate family members to “settle down”. Some few years down the line when challenges start creeping in they are translated as problems. The blame game starts with all sorts of words flowing in both directions in equal measure. Owning the union of marriage means working towards resolving whatever differences that there might be. With the lack of it, it’s no wonder the number of divorce cases the law courts have to handle lately.
All the reflections point out that we need to feel one with whatever activity that we are involved in. some call it passion, I call it owning the process. A common statement in action novels is that “He held the gun like it was an extension of his hand”. The goals and aspirations that we have from a personal point to the scope of the country will surely come to pass we aren’t mere onlookers but in the middle of the action.
Great article, keep up the good work
