Doing things the easy way, taking the shortest path to one’s destination, not having a second thought. Those are the greatest mistakes that have popularized the saying, “To err is human”. Most often we find yourself in situation where taking a second longer to consider the options we are presented with would lead to us making the right decisions. But the lack of patience or sheer laziness has cost people their privacy, money or both.
At the time of software installation , letting the software install with the default values means some or all of the following:-
1. Install updates whenever the software wants.
2. Installs additional software(that you don’t need)
3. Sends anonymous information to the software manufacturer.
4. Display advertisements from time to time.
5. Read personal information.
As I have said from time to time, I have nothing against the software makers whose products I use as examples. See they give us an option to have what we want and remove what we don’t so we can’t hold them guilty of not providing options.
So check out this example. When installing the Babylon translator using the quick install option three settings are automatically updated
1. Install some toolbar on the browser.
2. Make some search bar the default search engine.
3. Make the search engine the default homepage when opening a new tab.
What price does one have to pay? ? Simply click on the custom install and uncheck all the default options. This is a win win situation as one ends up with their desired software product without all the unwanted baggage that come with it.
